Her background as a professional actress and artist, ten years of work as a communication consultant between corporations, tribal governments, environmental bureaucracies, and environmental groups in high stakes negotiations in the water quality-quantity/power/fisheries/timber management arena, plus 25 years of coaching a variety of professional clients in public speaking skills have all contributed to her ability to make a significant difference for her attorney clients. Most of her current work revolves around developing case communication strategy, preparing witnesses for deposition, mediation and trial, and new client presentations.
Connie started her practice with a grant with the Defender Association in 1978, developing communication skills training for a variety of applications including client interviews, deposition preparation, communication strategy, witness preparation for deposition, mediation and trial, as well as presentation coaching for motions, opening statements, and appellate and closing arguments. She then expanded her practice to train judges to improve their courtroom demeanor, and expert witnesses including medical examiners, investigators, accountants, physicians, engineers and social workers, to testify more effectively.
Connie has developed in-house training programs for law firms and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as well as contributing her teaching skills to Continuing Legal Education programs with the Washington State Trial Lawyers, the Oregon State Trial Lawyers, the Washington State and King County Bar Associations, several of the public defense organizations and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy programs. In addition she has written curriculum for in-house legal training programs at the City of Seattle's Department of Construction and Land Use.
Her education includes a BFA in acting from the famed Carnegie Mellon University Drama Program; course work in negotiation, mediation, and leadership at Antioch University, and Facilitation Methods from the Institute of Cultural Affairs, as well as attendance or participation at countless CLE programs. Her current pro bono activities include developing training for CASA volunteers, a speakers' bureau for the King County Bar Association's Drug Policy Committee, and Washington CASH.
Ms. Miller is dedicated to providing cost-effective services for her attorney clients. She is able to provide the greatest efficiency when she is brought in to work on the case at the earliest point possible, prior to depositions. Her services can be considered an investment rather than an expense in that she provides a quality of information and feedback that will have lasting benefits for her clients and their clients.
